Filipinos are music lovers and one strong indication of this well-regarded legacy is the intense love for many Filipinos to play guitars. When it comes to guitars, the province of Cebu, particularly in Lapulapu City of Mactan is not a stranger. Craftsmanship and unique construction style has over the years make guitars from Cebu maintained its reputation as the best guitars produced locally. Fine guitars are also produced in Pampanga but Cebu guitars are more popular. Cebu made guitars are easily available in souvenir shops at the malls, Mactan International Airport, local shops in Lapulapu City as well as Metro Cebu area and also from mobile vendors. This photo here shows local vendor in a makeshift tent selling guitars and ukuleles at the vicinity of the Magellan’s Cross memorial landmark in downtown Cebu. By the way, I dig this photo out from my laptop’s hard drive. I have it stored there for long. Presently my laptop’ hard disk is 95% full and migrating it in my blog is a good idea to free up some disc space bit by bit. The ship arrived this morning in Raiatea and immediately the “abandonship” drill was carried out.
During the drill I noticed that plenty kids are onboard for this cruise and it only means one thing, the cruise will be more fun and livelier. Watching these kids running around the ship and hearing this babyish laughter and tittering around the hallways are in some ways made me feel like I am just at home hearing the same thing from my kids. Anyway, few days more and I will be having my short break from work and off to see my wife and kids at home. Over a year ago, my family spent 2-week vacation in Cebu but this time I don’t think we can do it. School classes in Philippines had just resumed and compromising the kids’ schooling is a big “NO” to me. Instead, during weekends I will set up family outing to the beach or to the swimming pool or even a picnic to the farm well do.
