Just before 8AM today, the gorgeous Black Watch find its place safely in the port of Mindelo in the island of Sao Vicente. Mindelo is one of Cape Verde’s main ports situated in the island of Sao Vicente. The other one is the seaport of Praia on another island called Sao Tiago about 116 nautical miles southeast of Sao Vicente. Black Watch visited this port last year prior to crossing the equator down to South America.
During the ship’s approach to the pier early this morning, the wind was blowing from 27 to 30 knots but it eventually went down to 7 to 10 knots as the ship proceeds closer towards the breakwater. That’s an amazing twist especially for the Captain. I haven’t maneuvered a ship in my whole life yet but I can tell how tricky it would be bringing a ship this big alongside with a considerable wind speed blowing.
I just stay onboard for the whole duration of stay in the port. I think my sixth sense was telling me to hold it back for Brazil...LOL... At this time, the ship is now heading down to South America and we will then be crossing the equator on the 15th of January at 1400H. The ship is scheduled to visit several Brazilian ports and the first port will be the port of Fortaleza. This will be my first time in Fortaleza, so let’s see what Fortaleza has for us.
