This is M/S Hanseatic, a five star cruise ship owned by a German company, Hapag-Lloyd. The M/S Hanseatic is a worldwide expedition cruise ship that is also designed to sail the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Its original name was M/S Society Adventurer when it was built in 1991 and was eventually renamed M/S Hanseatic until today. The 123- meter cruise ship can accommodate 184 passengers and 125 crew. Meeting this adventure ship rarely happens, so when the ship arrived this morning here in Papeete, Tahiti, I did not let this uncommon chance slip by without having any souvenirs. Using my digital camera (which I always have with me wherever I go around), I captured few images of the M/S Hanseatic. Now, I have here in my hard disk few photos of the ship and certainly I will be storing all these photos into my bulky archives of images as souvenirs.

To be able to sail with M/S Hanseatic either towards the freezing Arctic in the North or to the Antarctic region in the South is obviously an interesting experience. Here is an account from a person who had sailed with the M/S Hanseatic and you can read it from here and another one at this link.

This morning the 77,000 gross tons cruise ship Sun Princess arrived Papeete and will stay overnight. The huge ship occupied the other side of the wharf where the M/S Paul Gauguin is moored. I planned to visit Sun Princess in the afternoon but it’s impossible due to the strict security measures implemented by all cruise liners. Obviously, I can only take external photos of Sun Princess and forget about the interior of the ship. This is the present day security implementation on ships and aboard the M/S Paul Gauguin, visitors had to be pre-arranged a day before the visit. From the M/S Paul Gauguin, I went to deck 9 and position myself to capture the best possible angle of Sun Princess. I took several photos of the ship and I find these photos below the best my camera is able to produce. To read more about Sun Princess, you may also visit this link here.

The M/S Paul Gauguin will sail tonight for a cruise to the Marquesas Islands with calls in Rangiroa of the Tuamotu Archipelago and Society Islands top destinations - Bora Bora, Tahaa and Moorea.

Built in 1990 as Frontier Spirit at Mitsubishi shipyard in Kobe, Japan. Renamed Bremen in 1993 after Hapag-Lloyds acquisition and was renovated in July 1996. Bremen has sailed to Europe, Africa, South Pacific, Mediterranean, South America, Scandinavia and the Orient. Bremen’s hull was designed to cut through ice thus allowing her to sail to Antarctic and Arctic regions too. In fact, Bremen discovered a previously uncharted island in the Antarctic region that is now named Bremeninsel in honor of the ship. This 6,752-ton Bahamas registered expedition cruise ship has a capacity of 164 passengers and crew of 100.

The M/S Dawn Princess was in Bora Bora today. The 77,499- ton ship dropped anchor inside Vaitape Bay close to the M/S Paul Gauguin. Fortunately we arrived Bora Bora last night so we where just right in our usual anchoring position, otherwise, if the M/S Dawn Princess arrived ahead of us, they are most likely to take our favorite spot.
