Philippines’ Skycrapers PDF Print E-mail

Most notable for the expanse of stunning high rise buildings dominating the skyline of Makati, Ayala Avenue is in someway Philippines’ version comparable to the skycrapers in downtown Manhattan in New York. Ayala Avenue is not anymore unfamiliar to me as I’ve been into this wealthy suburb of Manila many times. Even up to these days, I am always lured into viewing these high-rise buildings whenever I passed by Ayala Avenue– scanning carefully from ground level to the top. Well, obviously I am from the province where trees and eyes wide view of green vegetations instead of these high rise buildings are common sights. The skycrapers in Ayala Avenue is surely an eye catcher. To all “probinsyanos” and “probinsyanas” in Manila, come on…don’t be shy… let loose and feel this awesome sight. Remember we don’t have this scenery back home. Bisayang daku gyod!...hehehehe…
These high rise buildings signify Philippines’ booming economy despite the increasing gap in figures between the rich and poor in which the latter obviously represents the larger part. As true as it looks considering the escalating number of shanties or makeshift shelters around many parts of Manila to include the homeless individuals sleeping along the sidewalks, streets and in public parks. Those shanties along Pasig River (I don’t know if it still exist after typhoon “Ondoy” ravaged Manila), makeshift

houses under flyovers most especially going to the pier area near Tondo and more around the metropolis are realistic indications of an ever increasing number of poor. To picture Philippines as a rich and highly industrial nation, I suggest visiting Ayala Avenue. But visiting both Ayala Avenue and the poor suburbs is absolutely an unbiased attempt of knowing the real Philippines.
Presently, I am here in Hamburg and the weather here is extremely so strange to me that going ashore isn’t in my mind…at first….LOL…. I am not used with this 7 degrees Celsius air temperature and gloomy weather here in Germany. But out of curiosity and eagerness to see Germany and see for myself what Hitler presents, I find myself wandering along the streets of St. Pauli yesterday. Perhaps on my next post, I will be posting here few photos from yesterday’s brief tour or shall I say “short walk”. Still got lots of paper works to do here besides completing the passage planning for next year’s scheduled world tour. I think I’ve finished more than half of the passage planning so tonight I’m going to move another half ahead.
