This is the port of Papeete, the principal port of Tahiti. Papeete port is one of the most visited ports for cruise ships, luxury yachts and sailboats from around the world. The largest vessel handled in the port of Papeete was the M/S Queen Elizabeth II which has an over-all length of 293 meters. M/S Paul Gauguin, M/S Tahitian Princess and the sailboat Star Flyer regularly call in the port of Papeete. Recently the pleasure yacht Octopus, a yacht owned by Microsoft executive Paul Allen docked in Papeete for a few days together with Rising Sun, a yacht co-owned by Oracle Corporation CEO Larry Ellison. Ice, a 90-meter yacht owned by Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov lately called in Papeete port (the yacht in the photo) so as Tom Perkins’ private sailing yacht, the Maltese Falcon.
Aremiti Ferry, a twin hull ferry with daily regular trips to Tahiti’s neighboring island Moorea is based in the port of Papeete. The port has facilities to accommodate loading and discharging of bulk, oil, general and container cargoes. So aside from cruise ships and pleasure boats that frequently calls Papeete, a number of cargo vessels are calling in this port too.
