I decided to spend some time to the village of Atuona after my watch yesterday. During the ship’s last cruise to the Marquesas, I went to the village of Atuona on a bike but this time I took the “Le Truck”, a free shuttle ride from the pier to the village for the ship’s guests and crew. I revisited The Paul Gauguin Cultural Center to take more photos of his artwork replication and to visit Jacques Brel museum for the first time. This is Jacques Brel museum – ESpace Jacques Brel. The museum which opened in October 3, 2003 was built to honor Jacques Brel’s short stay in the Marquesas. The Jacques Brel museum is one of the places frequently visited by tourists and visitors in the island of Hiva Oa. The museum is located in the village of Atuona, at the back of Paul Gauguin Cultural Center. The museum exhibits memorabilia of the actor singer as well as his airplane, a Beechcraft. Jacques Brel is a Belgian French speaking singer-songwriter and actor. His songs are well-known in French speaking countries. Jacques Brel had lived in the Marquesas before he died in 1978. His remains were buried in Hiva Oa at Calvart Cemetery close to Paul Gauguin’s grave, a famous French painter.
