Instead of sneaking into my cabin and either watch some movie or sleep all the way after finishing my watch, I decided to put a little twist on my monotonous life onboard the ship.
Yesterday I went for a guided sunset lagoon cruise onboard a jet boat as an escort of the tour run by a local tour operator. It was an interesting twilight cruise aboard a jet boat around the beautiful lagoon of Bora Bora. The jet boat which can carry as much as 15 persons took us a leisure cruise outside the lagoon encircling the island of Bora Bora. The jet boat steered close to the coral reef near the entrance of the lagoon that serves as the only pass that leads cruise ships, cargo ships, yachts and sailboats inside Bora Bora. To prevent from drifting towards the coral reefs, we tied on a floating buoy and stayed there as we waited for the sun to set in the horizon which was the highlight of the tour. The spot where the jet boat was tied enabled us to have a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean on one side and the breathtaking view of Bora Bora island on the other side. The clear turquoise water surrounding us offers a transparent view of the variety of colorful fish underneath the boat. We even had our moment to feed the fish with crumbs of French bread. Obviously, the fish here in French Polynesian waters prefers French bread over any other bread because they gulped down the crumbs in a flash…LOL… Not long enough, the sun sits in the horizon and each of us on the boat sigh in admiration as we witnessed this romantic moment with nature. It was totally awesome. After the sun sits on the horizon, we headed back inside the lagoon and took a quick tour inside the lagoon by cruising close to few motus or small islands. Then with the jet boat running in full speed about 30 knots, we had an exhilarating ride back to the pier to catch the tender back to the M/S Paul Gauguin which was at anchored in Bora Bora’s waterfront.
