Miraflores district is the opposing contrast of Lima district where modern buildings and more upbeat Peru is visibly distinctive as compared to the majestic old buildings of Peru dating back from the colonial time. I thought I won’t be going out today but I did went ashore after I was done with my overtime and this time I went to Miraflores district, one of Lima City’s commercial area, about 40 minutes tavel by bus from the ship. I took the 11AM shuttle bus that left from the ship and arrived Marriott Hotel by 11:40. Since Marriott Hotel is the drop off and pick up point for the the pre-arranged shuttle buses running continuously from the ship to Miraflores, I did not have to worry about missing the bus for the return trip to the ship. Marriott Hotel is the landmark of the area and it would be very easy for me to find this high rise luxury hotel no matter where my footsteps would lead me in Miraflores.

This is the Huallamarca pyramid. The pyramid is now surrounded with affluent residential and commercial buildings. Incas were the original settlers of Peru. As great warriors, the Incas also built lots of pyramids where sacrifice offerings to their god were carried out. The Incas normally offer sacrifices to their god when a calamity, drought or famine would hit the place. Fruits and animals were offered as sacrifices, but if the calamity, drought or famine would persist, humans were sacrificed instead.

This is the Love Park, an ocean front park in Miraflores district. I took this photo not today but during yesterday’s trip when the tour bus made a short stop over the place. The park has colorful flowers and mosaic of multi colored tiles dominating the landscape.
By 2 PM, I was onboard the bus heading back to the ship and exactly 2:40 PM, I am officially back onboard when my crew card was swiped at the computer by the gangway security officer. Second day in Peru and I’ve seen both old and modern day Peru.
