The ship arrived in the Chilean town of Puerto Chacabuco at 7AM today. Since the port in Puerto Chacabuco is not intended to accommodate larger ships so we anchored just in front of it and the passengers get to the shore through the ships tenders. The weather was fantastic light air, sunny sky and the 12 degrees Celsius air temperature was perfect for a brief walk into the village. Yeah, I went ashore today and wandered around the village. I havent got into the land since we left Ushuaia, Argentina. We were in Punta Arenas three days ago, but the weather wasnt promising any better chances of daylight throughout our stay in port, so today I made up what I missed to do in the previous port.

Since it is Sunday, Puerto Chacabuco seems like a ghost town. Shops and restaurants are close and the streets are very quiet. I was wondering where the residents of Puerto Chacabuco gone to during Sundays. If not for the few passengers and other off duty crew (including myself) strolling the streets, I would be the only one wandering around. On the other hand, I find Puerto Chacabuco a hidden paradise in the middle of Chiles seemingly endless fjords. Located at the head of the Aisen Fjord, Puerto Chacabuco offers a scenic landscape of high snowy mountain ranges and the presence of low thick clouds covering the base of these mountains further make the scenery look more amazing.
The pilot who was bringing the ship along the fjords shared to me few facts regarding Puerto Chacabuco. I learned that salmon fish is one of Chiles top export marine products and Puerto Chacabucos plenty fish salmon farms contributed much of it. Probably, the salmon I had during dinner could be from Chile.

At 2PM the ship left the port of Puerto Chacabuco and is now heading to Puerto Montt. We will be there tomorrow at 8AM. The ships crew mess has been recently Wi-Fi enabled. A 3-day test run for a limited number of users is currently on going after which Wi-Fi access will become available for everybody. I am one of those who signed up for the test run though we will be charged for the usage. But my point is that I dont have to wait in line tonight in order to use one of the ships two internet-connected computers at the crew mess. Two other more computers with internet connection are available at the crew day room but that area is a smoking area and I dont want to smell like a cigarette butt. This is all for now, good night and good morning as well.
