Colorful Welcome in Brazil PDF Print E-mail

After tracking along the 1500-nautical mile distance from Cape Verde, the ship received a colorful welcome on its arrival in Recife, Brazil as local dancers dressed in colorful costumes performed at the quay a traditional and acrobatic Brazilian dance called Frevo. The dance includes leg bending, jumping and synchronized rapid leg movements. I can’t imagine how the dancers managed to perform tirelessly these enormously vigorous dance movements for over an hour. The dance was so pulsating and a total boost for everyone aboard the ship to start the day on land after spending days at sea without seeing land but only clouds, sun, stars, moon and the horizon from the distance. In general, the whole voyage from Cape Verde was fantastic. The ship did not show any sea sickening motion during the 4-day long or exactly 115-hour sea passage time to Recife, Brazil - the ship’s first port of

call in South America. Absolutely, it was due to the fantastic weather that this part of the world is enjoying at this very moment. At least for the whole duration of the cruise around South America, we will get rid from the uncaring weather of the North Atlantic…LOL… We crossed the most celebrated great circle of the globe which is the equator on a moonless but clear starry skies on January 24th at 0118H UTC. Crossing from northern hemisphere to the south hemisphere is somewhat a remarkable sea experience especially for me because that was my very first to cross the equator.
We are at sea again and heading for Salvador, the ship’s next port of call in Brazil.
