Independence of the Seas (together with sister ships Freedom of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas) is one of the largest ever purpose-built cruise ship, although superseded in 2009 by RCI’s first Genesis-class ship, Oasis of the Seas.It is an extension of the highly successful Voyager-class of ships, which Royal aribbean International introduced in 1999 with the now 10-year old Voyager of the Seas.
