Germany's two most famous ocean liner companies, the Bremen based Norddeutscher Lloyd and the Hamburg based America Line merged in 1970 to become Hapag-Lloyd. Today Hapag-Lloyd operates four ships for three quite different market segments. Two small ships are in the specialized expedition cruise market (Bremen and Hanseatic); on eis in the mid-priced market (C. Columbus) and one ship (Europa) is in the luxury market. All feature destination -incentive cruises aimed at the German-speaking market with occassional cruises for the English-speaking market.
