Home Philippine Portal Sea Travel

Sea transportation in the Philippines is the most common and most typical way for many Filipinos to go across island to island. Small motorized boats, paddled boats to big ships have been over the years linking the archipelagic country as a whole. Though the fares for domestic flights these days are becoming more and more affordable, sea transport is still the choice for majority. Interisland shipping companies like SuperFerry, Negros Navigation, Gothong Lines and Sulpicio Lines are the country’s big interisland shipping companies operating regular routes from Manila to all major cities around the country. Typically, these shipping operators are using ro/ro ships or ferries to transport cargoes and passengers in addition to their fleet of plain cargo vessels.
There are also big interisland shipping operators that concentrate in containerized freight shipment services from Manila to major ports. These include Solid Shipping Lines and Lorenzo Shipping among many others.
Leading the way in transporting passengers and cargoes from Cebu City to major ports in Visayas and Mindanao include Cebu Ferries, Trans-Asia, Cokaliong Shipping Lines, George and Peter among many other smaller operators. Fast craft operators like Super Cat and Water Jet, using high speed catamaran or equivalent type from Cebu City to select Visayas and Mindanao ports are also popular. Fast craft transportation is not only popular in Cebu City but also in several major ports around the country like Iloilo, Zamboanga, Batangas and Manila to name a few.
Family owned motorized boats are normally operating passenger services to shorter destinations. These could be from a major town or city to a resort destination or to remote inhabited small islands. Please bear in mind not to board on any of these small motorized boats when you see that the number of persons already onboard go beyond its actual capacity. How would you know this? Well, since most of these boats are open typed, so most likely you will have to use your common sense.
