Here is one gruesome news I read from the internet just few minutes ago. This is another tragedy in aviation that is too harsh to be true. Time is really uncertain for everyone. The people onboard that plane may have been finishing their meals served by the flight attendants without knowing it was their last meal or perhaps watching their favorite movie from the in-flight entertainment clueless that it would be their last movie. Here is an excerpt of the news: “An Air France Airbus 330 jet on its way to Paris, France from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil went missing over the Atlantic. Air France Flight 447 was carrying a total of 228 people (212 passengers and 12 crew) aboard when it crossed through a thunderous zone with strong turbulence. Electrical failure and loss of cabin pressure was the last communication sent from the plane.” It’s our second day at sea. When I came to the bridge at midnight for my watch, I could see that the sea condition had changed from rough to moderate state. Checking on the anemometer, the easterly wind had dropped from 25 knots to 17 knots. The ship is making good speed ahead at 17.6 knots brought by the wind coming from the port quarter or almost at the stern. At exactly 2AM, I again adjusted the ship’s master clock set back to 30 minutes. This is to conform to the local standard time of the Society Islands. At 4AM, the sea condition is progressing to become more favorable so I expect that the sea state at noon will be much better. It’s 4:30AM now and one thing that I am sure off is that I really need to catch some good sleep this time. The movie “Australia” kept me awake until 11:30PM leaving me no room for some sleep. A Nicole Kidman movie is worth the sleepless nights….
