SSV Robert C. Seamans is an oceanographic research and sailing school vessel owned and operated by Sea Education Association (SEA), Inc. This modern yet traditional sailing ship docked in Papeete harbor on May 5th this year. I was on my way to the shop to buy some goodies when I passed close from where she was tied up at the harbour. It was really in my plan to get onboard this 134-foot state of the art research and training ship even just for a very brief period to have a glance of its interior if not for the cloudy skies that appears to be threatening a heavy rain which in fact did not. Perhaps I could even see the ship’s laboratory and took some photos of it. Anyway, being able to watch the sailing vessel at close range would be enough to satisfy my simple hobby at least. LOA – 134.5 feet Displacement: 300 tons median load Hull Rig: Steel Brigantine Sail Area: 8,500 sq. feet Power: 455 H.P. Diesel Built: 2001; Tacoma, WA Operating Range: Northern and Southern Pacific Ocean, North Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico Please visit the link here for more information about SSV Robert C. Seamans. |
